Become a Global Ambassador or Student Ambassador Mentor

Global Ambassadors are upperclassmen students with study abroad experience who serve in a myriad of different capacities on campus.  Whether it is offering mentorship to students interested in similar programs or study abroad more generally, leading the now-required Study Abroad 101 sessions for students, or even participating in panels, the Global Ambassador team is at the heart of the Center for Global Education’s mission.  Additionally, the Global Ambassador program offers unique opportunities to participants, ranging from training on how to market their study abroad experience to employers to public speaking.

The Center for Global Education’s Global Ambassadors program has two roles – Global Ambassador and Student Ambassador Mentor (SAM).

Global Ambasador vs. Student Ambassador Mentor

Students who serve as Global Ambassadors volunteer their available time throughout the Academic Year to join us for events and serve on student panels where they discuss and answer questions about their recent time abroad (depending on their availability). Their contact information is available to currently applied and prospective study abroad students, and they serve as a resource for student questions about studying abroad.

In addition to everything a Global Ambassador does, students who serve as Student Ambassador Mentors (SAMs) volunteer their time throughout the Academic Year to help our office develop and execute at least one event per semester, assist in other events put on by their peers, and host Study Abroad 101 presentations (approx. 30 minutes per week during the semester).

Benefits of being a Global Ambassador:

  • Share your abroad experiences with perspective study abroad students
  • Gain public speaking skills
  • Enhance your resume through service
  • Assist in leading a team of Global Ambassadors
  • Global Ambassadors will receive a graduation cord upon completion of the Academic Year

Benefits of being a Student Ambassador Mentors, in addition to the benefits listed above:

  • Enhance your resume through leadership and service
