Interested in studying abroad? We are excited to help you through the process and answer any questions you might have. It is strongly recommended that you speak with a study abroad advisor to discuss your options and to ensure that a program is a good fit for you academically.
Please be sure to follow the below steps before scheduling a meeting with an advisor in the Center for Global Education.
1. Attend Study Abroad 101
Study Abroad 101 is a thirty minute information session and the required first step in applying to study abroad. Sessions are presented by the Global Ambassadors or a member of the CGE staff and are meant to provide an overview of how study abroad works at Providence College. Topics discussed include eligibility, programs, cost considerations, scholarships, setting expectations, and much more.
There is always time available at the end of each session to allow for any questions. Study Abroad 101 is a great way to start getting answers for some of your general questions about studying abroad.
Study Abroad 101 sessions are offered frequently throughout each semester. Please check the Study Abroad 101 page for more information.
2. Find Your Study Abroad Advisor
Each of the advisors in the CGE work with specific majors and minors. It is not required to meet with a study abroad advisor for study abroad approval. If you would like to meet for study abroad advising to discuss your options, please consult the list below to determine which study abroad advisor works with your degree program(s).
- Christian Wilwohl, Dean of Global Education – Global Studies majors and School of Business
- Stephanie Massa, Study Abroad Advisor – School of Arts and Sciences, School of Education and Social Work, and School of Nursing and Health Sciences
If you are unsure of who your assigned study abroad advisor is, please contact the CGE for further assistance.
3. Schedule a Study Abroad Advising Appointment
kdsdksdOnce you have attended a Study Abroad 101 session and identified your study abroad advisor, you can schedule an appointment. Study abroad advising appointments are thirty minutes, and advisors can support you in looking at the programs and locations you are most interested in as well as answering more specific questions that you have. It is not required to meet with a study abroad advisor to apply or be approved for study abroad.
Appointments can be made through Bookings. The times listed for each advisor is the most current availability as Bookings syncs with all advisor calendars in real time. You may need to change the day, week, or month to find appointment slots depending on the time of the semester.
Schedule a study abroad advising appointment here.
You can also call or stop by the CGE to make an appointment with your study abroad advisor.
4. Prepare for Your Appointment
Your study abroad advising appointment will be much more productive if you do some preparation beforehand. During Study Abroad 101, presenters show all attendees how to navigate the CGE website. Your study abroad advisor can certainly give you suggestions, but we encourage you to spend some time looking through the website and thinking about which location(s) and/or programs are of interest to you. In addition, write down all of your questions and bring those to the appointment.
