Jenna Gomez-Nieto

Health Policy and Management and PsychologyCopenhagen, Denmark | DIS Psychology

Hi! My name is Jenna Gomez-Nieto, and I am a Psychology and Health Policy & Management double major. In addition to SAM, I am on the executive boards for Special Olympics College Club, the Pep Band, and the Alembic. In the fall I studied abroad in Copenhagen through DIS, and it was truly the best experience of my life. Having never traveled outside of the country and going without a group of friends was very intimidating, but it allowed me to grow my confidence and make the most out of my time abroad. I lived in the center of the city and walked or rode my bike to school, took part in the visiting host program, and explored the hidden gems of the city. In addition, I traveled to many other countries and learned to overcome cultural and language barriers, gaining so many tips that I am always happy to share. This experience was unforgettable and is always one of my favorite things to talk about, so I cannot wait to help you start this journey yourself!

Claire Geis

Political Science and Global StudiesLondon, England and Rome, Italy | CIV in London (IES) and Semester in Rome, Humanities (PC)

Hey! I am Claire Geis, a junior majoring in Political Science and Global Studies with minors in Catholic Humanities and Public Administration.  I am likely to be found around campus either in Ruane or Slavin, or anywhere but the library!  I was fortunate enough to get to study abroad in both London and Rome for a semester.  I loved the city of London and all there was to see and do at all times!  It taught me how to adventure on my own and make new friends in a foreign city.  I fell in love with Rome’s culture and the people and of course the food!  Both locations helped me learn more about myself and the world and I love getting to chat with others about these experiences!

Catherine Santa

Political Science | Dublin, Ireland | IFSA University College Dublin

Hi! I’m Catherine Santa, a senior majoring in Political Science with a minor in Business Innovation. If you’re on campus during the week, you’ll probably find me in the library hard at work or out for a run around campus. Outside of SAM, I’m active in student congress and enjoy participating in intramural sports. One of the most transformative experiences of my life was studying abroad at University College Dublin during the spring of my junior year. Having never traveled outside the country before, I was initially nervous, but Dublin quickly became one of my favorite places. The city offered endless opportunities for exploration, from vibrant live music scenes to breathtaking landscapes just a short bus ride away. My program, ISFA, introduced me to people from around the globe and provided invaluable guidance throughout my journey. This experience taught me so much about independence, travel, and cultural differences, and I’m excited to share more about how studying abroad has shaped me!

Hi! My name is Olivia Konfino, and I am a Finance major on the Quantitative Track. On campus you can typically find me in Ryan Business Center during the week either in class or doing work. I studied abroad in Milan; Italy for the Fall semester of my junior year and it was one of the most incredible experiences I have ever had. Studying abroad in Milan gave me a fresh perspective on the world around me, allowing me to learn how people in all areas of the globe act, eat, dance, and live. I also worked as an intern for a financial tech company which opened the door to so many networking and corporate opportunities as well. Because of the balancing of work, school, and travel, I gained so many tips and tricks to time management, safety, planning and so much more. I cannot wait to help you with anything you might need and look forward to sharing my advice! Please reach out if you need anything!

Spain

Andrew Gilbride

Quantitative EconomicsSeville, Spain | API Multidisciplinary Studies in English and Spanish

Hi! My name is Andrew Gilbride, I am a Junior Honors Quantitative Economics major with History and  Spanish minors. Outside of SAM, I am a peer tutor for Math and Econ. If you don’t find me in the library, I am probably at the AMP rooting for the Friars. I spent the Fall Semester studying abroad in Sevilla, Spain with API “Multidisciplinary Studies in English and Spanish,” and it was easily one of the best experiences of my life. Sevilla was a smaller city than Madrid or Barcelona, but it truly is a hidden gem. It is filled with a rich history and unique atmosphere. I lived with a host family which helped me achieve a true language and culture immersion experience. I studied at Universidad Pablo de Olavide which offered subject courses taught in both English and Spanish. The school also had an “intercambio” program to meet Spanish students. Of course, I still made time to travel around Europe and to nearby Morocco. I was the only PC kid in my program, which was scary at first, but making new close friends and traveling was the highlight. Please reach out if you have any questions about traveling, homesickness, social life, or finding a program. I can’t wait for you to have a wonderful time abroad!
