Stranmillis University College Education Practicum
Students study at Stranmillis University College, a premiere college of education that is part of Queens University. Situated in Belfast, the university attracts international students from all over the world who want to be teachers. Northern Irish and international students attend classes and live together on campus. Students complete school-based work, or practicum, one day a week at a local school in Key Stage 2 classrooms. With the mentoring of a cooperating teacher and university faculty, PC students teach weekly Literacy and Social Studies lessons. In addition to the required Literacy Methods and Practicum course and a Northern Ireland Cross-Cultural course, students can take one or two other education electives to meet their required 15 credit semester. Weekly meetings with a program advisor, participation in campus clubs and sports activities, and time exploring Belfast neighborhoods with new friends complete this study abroad experience.
