Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)

The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, more commonly referred to as FERPA, is a federal law within the United States that governs the sharing of student information with outside individuals. When a student becomes 18 years of age, they are considered an adult, and their personal information cannot be discussed or circulated without their consent.

The Center for Global Education respects each student’s right to privacy and adheres to FERPA law. As a result, we do not share personal identifying information with anyone outside of Providence College, including but not limited to our various study abroad program providers and families, unless we have explicit permission from a student to do so.

For more information about FERPA, please refer to the Office of the Registrar’s website.
