Semester Programs

Teaching in China- Ruth Donaghey Spring 2012-11zv3jh

For students who are interested in participating in a semester or academic year program abroad, you are in the right place. This page provides helpful information on the overall application process and how to navigate this kind of study abroad experience. Please be sure to also explore the other semester program pages found within the left sidebar menu for additional details and resources.

Explore Approved Study Abroad Programs

PC has a wide selection of approved study abroad programs. All students who would like to do a semester or academic year program and earn academic credit must go abroad through an approved PC program.

Our Horizons database is a great way to start looking at our available programs. You can organize your search by country and program provider, or you can even look up specific programs by keywords. Horizons is also where you will submit a semester or academic year study abroad application (explained in later steps).

Some majors have specific study abroad programs from which they are required to choose while others have programs that are recommended. Unfortunately, not every location and program is a good fit for every major. Please be sure to consult our Programs by Major and Minor page in order to determine the requirements or recommendations for your major along with which programs will offer you the most course options. Any majors without a specific list may choose any PC approved program that works for them academically.

Choose a Study Abroad Program

You will want to select a program that best fits your academic and personal goals for study abroad. If you are unsure about your desired program and whether it will work for you, you may schedule an appointment with a CGE staff member to discuss it further. The CGE will also be able to provide you with alternatives in the event your chosen program does not work for you. Please visit our Book an Appointment page to determine who your assigned study abroad advisor is and to learn more about how to make a study abroad advising appointment.

Apply for Study Abroad and PC Approval

When you have selected a study abroad program, you will then want to submit an application through our database here. The application does not take too long, but it does require you to provide information and several documents, including a copy of your passport. Applications should be complete and submitted by the December 2nd deadline in order to be considered for study abroad the next academic year. Students must choose only one specific program for which to apply.

Wait to Obtain PC Approval

The CGE will begin the application review process once the deadline has passed and throughout the break in between the fall and spring semesters. Approval decisions will be granted no later than the first week of the spring semester. Students will be notified of their approval status by email, so be sure to check your PC email frequently.

Apply Directly to a Study Abroad Program

The Center for Global Education will communicate next steps to you regarding application decisions and approvals. Once you have received approval from PC to study abroad, you can move forward with completing a formal application for your selected program. This can be done through the program provider website. Be sure that you are applying to the same program that you indicated on your Horizon’s application.

Please note the following special circumstances:

  • Both the PC Center for Theology & Religious Studies (PC in Rome) and the Danish Institute for Study Abroad (DIS) programs only require one application. The Horizons application completed by students grants approval and acceptance at the same time. These applications require an essay and two faculty recommendations.
  • Elementary/Special Education majors must submit their Study Abroad Intent Form to the Department of Education by October 19, 2023.
  • The College reserves the right to restrict the numbers of students approved to study abroad in any one semester. This is done in order to balance the number of students intending to study abroad across the academic year.
