Faculty Leaders

Civ in London is facilitated by two faculty members from Providence College. Each faculty member brings a variety of knowledge and experience to the program. Please see below to learn more about the faculty leaders for Spring 2026.

Elizabeth Bridgham, Ph.D.
Associate Professor English and Women’s and Gender Studies

Professor Bridgham specializes in nineteenth-century British literature and intersections of literature and film. She is also an active participant in DWC, where she teaches in the second year and offers colloquia on topics like “The Global City,” “Our Monsters, Ourselves,” and “Capitalism: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly.”  In 2023, Dr. Bridgham was a faculty leader for Civ in London, and she believes that this ever-changing and culture-rich ancient city makes the best classroom in the world.

Robert Stretter, Ph.D.
Associate Professor of English

Professor Stretter specializes in Medieval and Renaissance English literature. In addition to offering courses on Chaucer and Shakespeare (both Londoners), he enjoys teaching in DWC, where he has co-created such colloquia as “Staging History” (exploring plays based on historical events), “Apocalypse!” (about ways of imagining the end of the world), and now “Global London.” Dr. Stretter has spent significant time in and around London, teaching, traveling, and researching. Having first taught Civ in London in Spring 2023, he is thrilled at the opportunity to explore his favorite city once again with a new group of adventurous DWC students.
