World Languages & Cultures Programs
Please carefully review the Departmental Study Abroad Academic Policy:
Courses taken abroad must meet standards and fulfill the goals of the foreign language department’s major and minor requirements. In consultation with their languages professors, students studying French, German, Italian, or Spanish must select particular programs. These students must obtain the approval of the department chair before seeking administrative approval and enrolling the program.
Students must select specific courses in consultation with their professors and communicate directly with their academic advisor. Language minors without advisors within the department can consult with the department chair. In the event of course changes or any academic issues, students may always reach out to these department resource. Finally, at the conclusion of their program, students must present a portfolio of work completed abroad. These portfolios will be submitted to the departmental advisor and Chair for evaluation.
Students will not be granted credit for language courses taken abroad at a repeated level. When the student’s abroad academic transcript is received by PC, it will be forwarded to the department Chair. This is done in order to obtain confirmation of course equivalency.
If a student repeats a language course abroad, only the most recent grade will be used to calculate overall GPA. Students considering repeating, or required to repeat, a course should be aware that the most recent grade will be recorded. This will occur whether or not it is higher than the earlier attempt. A repeated course is noted on the transcript with an “I” (included in GPA) or an “E” (excluded from GPA). These letters designate the relationship of the course to the student’s academic record.
In keeping with college policy, it is the student’s responsibility to maintain frequent contact with the departmental advisor and chair. The student must verify the degree audit to ensure that all information is accurate and that all requirements are met.
